Sermons, 1769-1791.

This collection contains eighteen sermons, from the period 1769 to 1791, which were delivered primarily in Milford and at Yale College. Included among the subjects are "Commutative Justice and its Opposite," "The Divine Presence in Christian Assemblies," and two Thanksgiving sermons, 1779 and 1780, containing references to the American Revolution, during which Wales had served briefly as chaplain.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Wales (1748-1794), the son of Rev. John and Hazadiah (Leonard) Wales, was born on 2 March 1748. Wales attended Yale and graduated in 1767. He served as minister in Milford, Conn., from 1770 until 1782 when he became Professor of Divinity at Yale. Wales remained in that position until 1793 when he was forced to resign due to ill health; he died on 18 February 1894. Rev. Dr. Wales married Catharine Miles ( -1837).
